Adam T. Smith

Adam T. Smith is Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences in Anthropology at Cornell University and Director of the Cornell Institute of Archaeology and Material Studies. He is a cofounder (with Ruben Badalyan) of the joint American-Armenian Project for the Archaeology and Geography of Ancient Transcaucasian Societies (Project ArAGATS), a long-term collaborative research project in Armenia. He is also a co-director (with Lori Khatchadourian and Ian Lindsay) of Caucasus Heritage Watch, an organization monitoring heritage destruction in the region. His research interests center on the ways the material world constitutes the social and political life, issues that he examines through landscapes and artifacts of the Caucasus during the Bronze and Iron Ages.
