R. Bruce Hitchner is professor of classics and international relations at Tufts University. His research and teaching focuses on the history and archaeology of the Roman empire. His main areas of interest and publication are the Roman economy and the Gallic and North African provinces of the empire. Hitchner has directed archaeological projects in Tunisia and France and is currently writing on the origins of Roman expansion and the Roman empire as an early globalization.
Hitchner was Editor-in-Chief of the AJA from 1999 to 2004.
