L. Vance Watrous teaches in the Departments of Art History, Classics, and Anthropology at the University at Buffalo. He has excavated at Franchthi Cave, Corinth, Halieis, Knossos, Chania, and Kommos and has run archaeological surveys in the Argolid, on Crete, in the Lasithi Plain, the Mesara, around Gournia, and Galatas. His research interests and publications include Minoan archaeology, Aegean–Near Eastern interconnections, the iconography of Greek art, and modern Greek studies. He currently directs an American excavation at the Minoan site of Gournia in Crete.
