Marta Lorenzon (BA, MA, MSc, PhD) is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Centre of Excellence in Ancient Near Eastern Empires, University of Helsinki. She earned her doctorate in archaeology from the University of Edinburgh after her studies in historic preservation at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Columbia University. She has conducted research in numerous sites in the Mediterranean, in the Americas, and in Asia, investigating architecture by combining geoarchaeology, building archaeology, and anthropology. Her research interests include the relationship between natural and built environments, earthen architecture, and the process of identity construction in past and modern societies.
