Michael B. Cosmopoulos is the Hellenic Government-Karakas Foundation Professor of Greek Studies and professor of archaeology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. His fields of interest include the Aegean Bronze Age, the emergence of states, and Greek mystery cults, in which he has published 16 books and more than 100 articles and scholarly papers. He has excavated at several sites in Greece and Ukraine and is currently the director of the Iklaina Archaeological Project (www.iklaina.org). He has received the Archaeological Institute of America Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award and is a Fellow of the Academy of Science-St. Louis, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and the Royal Society of Canada; and a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Athens.
