Jaye McKenzie-Clark is an archaeologist with more than 16 years practical experience working in archaeological sites in Italy and Greece. Prior to academic studies, she was a commercial potter and, as a result, possesses a comprehensive practical understanding of all aspects of ceramic manufacture. In collaboration with John Magnussen from the Australian School of Advanced Medicine, Macquarie University, Jaye has pioneered the use of Dual Energy Computed Tomography (DECT) to analyze the composition of ancient artifacts, including ceramics from Pompeii. In contrast to traditional analytical techniques, DECT is totally nondestructive, an important factor when investigating valuable and irreplaceable ancient artifacts.
