Tyler Jo Smith is Professor of Classical Art and Archaeology and Director of the Interdisciplinary Archaeology Program at the University of Virginia. A specialist in Greek figure-decorated pottery and material culture, she has written extensively on images of performance including dance, drama, and religion. Her book, Religion in the Art of Archaic in Classical Greece, will be published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 2021. Throughout her career she has taken part in fieldwork at a variety of sites and projects in Greece (Knossos, Kato Phano, Thebes), Sicily (Morgantina), and Turkey, where she has studied the Hellenistic and Roman votive reliefs from the Balboura Survey, Pisidian Survey, and Hacımusalar Höyük (ancient Choma).
