Nicola Laneri teaches archaeology and art history of the Ancient Near East at the University of Catania. Since 2003, he has been the director of the Hirbemerdon Tepe Archaeological Project. During his career, he has published more than 80 scientific articles and books, including Archeologia della morte (Rome 2011), Biografia di un vaso (Paestum 2009), and the edited volumes Performing Death: The Social Analysis of Funerary Traditions in the Ancient Near East and Mediterranean (Chicago 2007) and Defining the Sacred: Approaches to the Archaeology of Religion in the Near East (Oxford 2015).
