Mette Marie Hald is a senior researcher at the National Museum of Denmark. Her main research interests include the agricultural economy and culinary practice of communities in the ancient Near East, especially during the rise of early cities. She has worked as an archaeobotanist on a number of excavations in Syria, Jordan, and Anatolia. She codirects the Danish Archaeological Expedition to Iraq, which includes the excavation of the Late Chalcolithic settlement of Bab-w-Kur and surveys on the Rania Plain in northern Iraq.
