Alfredo Carannante is Head of the Mediterranean Archaeology Department of the International Research Institute for Archaeology and Ethnology (IRIAE) in Italy. Archaeozoologist and geoarchaeologist, he is a specialist on the exploitation of marine resources in antiquity, evolution of the coastal landscapes, and ancient gastronomy. He is a member of numerous archaeological missions in Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Egypt, Eritrea, Oman, and Japan, for which he oversaw the bioarchaeological and geoarchaeological analysis and directed teams of specialists. Dr. Carannante has taught anthropology, bioarchaeology, and geoarchaeology in several Italian universities, created and directed an academic laboratory of archaeological sciences, and chaired and organized several conferences.
