In most cases, the time from submission to decision for articles submitted to the American Journal of Archaeology is from four to six months.
Submissions should not exceed 20,000 words, including abstract, article body, works cited, notes, and figure captions.
All submissions should follow the AJA Policy on the Publication and Citation of Unprovenanced Antiquities and the Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Elizabeth R. Macaulay is associate professor of Liberal Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, and Digital Humanities at the Graduate Center, the City University of New York. Her research focuses the material culture of the Roman, Late Antique, and Islamic worlds, with particular emphasis on Roman gardens and architecture, as well as the reception of ancient architecture and material culture in the United States. She also has a research interest in Islamic architecture. Her current research examines the afterlife of ancient architecture in the United States and the use of archaeological objects as diplomatic tools. Her most recent book is Antiquity in Gotham: Ancient Architecture in New York (Fordham 2021) and she currently serves as the Museum Reviews Editor for the AJA.
